Another beautiful love story from Abby Jiminez
This is my new favorite book by Abby Jimenez. It's wonderful!
This perfectly blends a sweet and entertaining romcom with a deeply touching story. It is an emotional and fantastic read and completely swoony.
The story starts with a funny Reddit thread. The main characters, Emma and Justin, have an online meet-cute as two "cursed" people whose dates meet "the one" just after breaking up with them. They try to break the curse by dating each other, hoping that after their pre-agreed breakup, they will also find their soulmates. The premise is intriguing, and Emma and Justin's early text banter is witty and fun. Their slow-burn romance is full of forehead kisses, thoughtful gestures, and amazing chemistry. They are both well-developed characters, flawed and authentic. Emma's character arc will stick with me for a while.
As the story unfolds, it explores deeper topics such as mental health, complicated family dynamics, the justice system, and the foster care system. The book winds its way around your heart as backstories are revealed, sacrifices are made for loved ones, and humorous moments occur.
The secondary characters are lovely as well. Emma's devoted best friend and foster sister, Maddy, was wonderful and I adored her. Justin's siblings will steal your heart, and his best friends and dog, Brad, add to the charm. There are also some crossovers from Jiminez's previous books, a few easter eggs, and a twist that caught me off guard! The way Jiminez weaves it all together is a treat for her fans.
Jiminez's writing style pulls you in immediately, makes you care about these characters, and keeps you flipping the pages. I had a serious book hyangover for days after I finished. This is a must-read for romance fans. I loved it!
