Author Chat with Ellery Adams!

The Little Lost Library is out today and Ellery is here to talk books!

I am so thrilled to be joined again by Colleen from ILikeOldBooks1213 for another Cozy Scenes and Themes author chat, this time with NYT bestselling author, Ellery Adams! Adams writes the popular Secret, Book, and Scone Society mysteries, and the newest installment drops today!

What inspired the premise of The Secret, Book & Scone Society series? Did you take anything from your personal experiences or interests?

The series was inspired by the healing power of books and the magic of bookstores. They are the soul of every community. I’ve worked in a bookstore and enjoy fantasizing about owning a cozy little bookshop that serves coffee and pastries and has a fat cat sleeping on one of the reading chairs.

What can we expect for the future of this series?

I just turned in Book 8, The Tattered Cover, and will start working on Book 9 in a few months.

You recently announced a new series that is a departure from the mystery genre. What can you tell us about this series? What motivated you to start something new?

My current WIP is a standalone based on my childhood on Long Island. It’s set in 1982 and is a wild mix of coming-of-age, horror, and feminist fiction. I can’t say much more because I’m still working on it. ;)

How many books or series are you currently working on? How do you juggle multiple projects?

I’ve recently wrapped up the Book Retreat series, so I’m only working on one series and the standalone right now. In an ideal world, I’d write one SBSS mystery and one general fiction novel a year, but I’d prefer 9 months per book.

What are the biggest lessons you learned thus far in your writing career?

Find a publisher who believes in what you write. I will always be grateful to Kensington for letting me push boundaries with The Secret, Book & Scone Society series. It’s truly a genre blend of mystery, women’s fiction, and magical realism.

If you could discuss the writing process with any author, living or dead, who would you choose and why?

I’d love to talk poisons with Agatha Christie! (Over tea and scones, of course)

Thank you Ellery Adams for joining us and congratulations on your new novel, The Little Lost Library!

And here is Colleen's insightful review of The Little Lost Library!

In each book of the Secret, Book & Scone Society, Ellery Adams brings us a beautiful community of friends and a warm love of books. Every time a read a novel in this series, I remember how literature can help us heal and connect us to other people.

At the same time, Adams also shows different aspects of the sadness and loneliness humans face. This time, a character is a hoarder who has faced a lot of trauma in her life. We are brought into her house, and the situation can be difficult to read about. For me, this balance between the joys and pains of life is what makes this series a standout, along with the wonderful characters.

Sheriff Grant McCabe reaches new heights in this one as a perfect boyfriend, let me tell you. He has a lot of patience with Nora.

You may be wondering about all the miniature items in this photo. The idea of miniatures, including miniature books, is a big part of this novel. I knew I wanted to use my MiniBrands Books, and when my daughter heard my concept, she asked if I would like to use any of the many many Mini items she has made. a If you've read the book, you will know why I picked the bathtub, although the situation in the book is much more macabre than this adorable loofah and bath bomb setup!
